Tell us about your business
Find your business on Google, paste your website, or type it in — Tradesly learns the rest.
A receptionist who doesn't know what you do, where you work, or when you're open isn't a receptionist — it's an answering machine. So the first setup step is the one everything else depends on: teaching Tradesly your business.
The good news: you've probably already written most of it. It's on your website, in your Google listing, in the story you tell every customer. Tradesly's job in this step is to go read it so you don't have to retype it.
1 Three ways in — pick the easiest
The first setup step is labeled Website, and its heading reads “Let's build your AI agent”. It gives you three ways to identify your business. They all end in the same place, so use whichever is least work:
- Search for it. Type your business name and Tradesly finds it via Google search — usually the fastest route if your business shows up when customers google you.
- Give it your website. Choose Enter your website URL instead, type your address, and press Analyze My Website.
- Type it in. No website, or a brand-new business? Choose I don't have a website, enter your company name and what type of business you are, and Tradesly builds from that.
2 The steps
Start at the first setup step.
It's labeled Website and the header reads “Step 1 of 3”.
Search for your business by name.
The fastest route, if your business shows up when customers google you.
Press Enter your website URL instead if the search doesn't find you.
Give it your address, press Analyze My Website, and it goes and reads the site. No website at all? Pick I don't have a website and type your company name and what type of business you are.
Check the “Confirm your business” card.
It shows the business name, address and phone Tradesly found. Fix anything that's wrong — this is what your AI will tell callers.
Press Looks good — continue.
That takes you to the Phone step, where you choose your number.
3 What Tradesly does with your website
If Tradesly can reach your website, it reads it the way a careful new hire would: what services you offer, the hours you keep, the area you cover, and the story you tell — how long you've been around, what you're proud of, how you talk about your work.
That becomes the starting point for everything your AI says on the phone. When a caller asks
“Do you guys do tankless water heaters?”
your receptionist answers from what your business actually says about itself — not from a generic script about “plumbing services.”
4 What if it gets something wrong?
It's a starting point, not a verdict. Whatever Tradesly picks up here, you'll review and refine in the very next steps — and you keep refining it for as long as you use the product. The coaching conversation in Train your receptionist is where you correct anything that's off and add what your website never mentioned, and Describe the change covers how you keep adjusting things in plain language later, any time your business changes.
If you started from a bare name and trade, expect the coaching conversation to matter more — your receptionist will ask you about the things a website would normally have answered. That's fine. Five minutes of telling it about your business covers what a website would have.
5 What this step never does
It never puts anything in front of your customers.
Nothing answers a phone yet — you're still setting up, and no caller reaches your AI until you've finished all three steps and pressed Finish setup.
It never overwrites what you tell it directly.
What you say about your own business always wins over what a website says.
Next step: Pick your AI phone number.
