Calling & texting compliance, in plain language

What the rules require, what Tradesly enforces for you, and what stays your call.

Business calling and texting are regulated, and the rules are stricter than most owners expect. The good news: they're actually on your side. They exist so the people who want to hear from you do — and the people who don't, don't. Followed properly, they're why your texts get delivered and your reputation stays clean. Tradesly's job is to make following them the default, not a chore.

1 What the rules require, plainly

This isn't legal advice — it's the working shape of the rules:

  • A business that texts must register with the phone carriers, once, saying who it is and why it texts. Unregistered business texting gets filtered or blocked.
  • People must have a real reason to hear from you, and an easy way to say stop.
  • A stop request persists. AI outreach stays blocked until the customer uses the approved process to request that it resume; the earlier event remains in history.
  • Do-not-call means do not call.
  • Outbound calls belong inside sensible hours — nobody's phone should ring at 6 a.m. on your business's behalf.

2 What to do next

1

Register your business for texting.

In Settings, SMS Registration walks through Business detailsVerify by textCarrier reviewGo live, ending at “SMS Ready”. Turn on texting for your business is the walkthrough.

2

Set the hours you're willing to call.

On the Sales Caller Setup tab, Time to call takes Days, From and Until — calls outside that window simply wait for it.

3

Sign off on the five statements.

Same tab, under Compliance: read all five, tick them, then press Confirm all five. The card then names who confirmed and when, with Re-confirm when anything changes. See Calling hours and the compliance sign-off.

4

Know how a “stop” is recorded.

Do-not-call, opt-outs and consent in plain language covers what's kept, when it's checked, and what a customer can text to opt out.

3 What Tradesly enforces for you

  1. Carrier registration, handled once. Before your first text goes out, your business is registered with the carriers through SMS Registration — a guided form and a wait, not paperwork you file yourself. It's a one-time step, and it's also why your texts actually arrive instead of dying in a filter.
  2. Consent and opt-outs recorded. Save verbal consent with the appropriate ticket disposition; it remains permanently in the Ticket List. AI messaging checks the current status before sending, while the history preserves earlier changes.
  3. Do-not-call honored automatically. Someone marked Do not call is not called by the AI, even if the same lead appears in a list you upload later.
  4. AI quiet hours enforced. AI calls and messages wait outside their configured windows. A human teammate can still call or send manually after hours, so staff must follow your policy and the rules that apply to the recipient.

4 What stays your call

Tradesly can enforce the rules above, but it can't know how you got your list — only you know that. So before a Call List runs, a named person at your business signs off — attests — that the people on it can lawfully be called: they're your customers, they asked to hear from you, or you otherwise have the standing to call them. That sign-off is five plain statements you tick and confirm, and the card afterwards shows who confirmed them and when. It's a real record with a real name on it, on purpose. Nothing here is “verified” by Tradesly — consent lives between you and your customers, so the signature has to be yours, not ours.

The same goes for what you say: your offers, your claims, and your prices are your business. Tradesly makes sure the right people hear them at the right times — what they hear is yours to stand behind.

Three things carry almost all of this, and each one is done once.

5 The payoff

Registered texting gets delivered. Honored opt-outs keep complaints — and carrier trouble — away from your number. Enforced hours keep your name off the wrong kind of list. Compliance done this way isn't overhead; it's why your messages land and keep landing. For the day-to-day of opt-ins and opt-outs, see Consent and opt-outs.
