Test the pitch on yourself first
Place a real test call and hear exactly what your leads will hear.
Nobody should discover how their AI sounds by having a customer tell them. Before your Sales Caller rings a single lead, ring yourself — and hear the opener, the pitch, and the close with your own ears.
1 Ring your own phone
The Sales Caller's Test Call tab is a single panel headed “Place a test call”. Put your own mobile in Number to call, and what you hear is exactly what a lead would hear: the same script, the same voice, the same number on the caller ID.
You don't need a Call List to test. Use “Their first name”, “Their last name”, and “What's the call about? (optional)” to create a realistic example without using a real customer’s details.
2 The steps
Open the Sales Caller's Test Call tab.
It reads “Place a test call”.
Put your own mobile in Number to call.
Add “Their first name” and “Their last name” so you hear it greet a person, not a stranger's number.
Say what the call is about.
“What's the call about? (optional)” is where you set the pretext — “asked for a water heater quote”.
Check Details it will mention.
That panel lists the facts it can bring up; if something's wrong or missing, Edit in Setup takes you to it.
Press Call this number and answer like a stranger.
Your phone rings within seconds. It's a real call: if you let it book you in, that's a real appointment, and any text it sends is really sent.
3 A test call is a real call
A test call uses the phone and can create real customer-facing actions. Use your own details and review the result afterward.
- It's a real phone call from your real business number, and it costs what a call costs.
- The conversation can appear in Office and in connected products according to your current setup. Use recognizable test details so your team does not mistake it for a customer.
- Anything it achieves is real too. If you let it book you in, that appointment appears on the schedule. Cancel it afterward if you do not want to keep it.
Review the visible result after every test. Do not use a customer’s phone number or assume the product will automatically remove test activity for you.
4 What to listen for
Take the call the way a stranger would, not the way the owner would. Listen for:
- The opener. Does it say who's calling, for which business, and why — and does the recording notice you signed off on actually get said?
- The pitch. Is the offer the current one? Is the price right? Would you keep listening?
- The yes. Say “sure, when could you come out?” and see whether it books cleanly against your schedule.
- The push-back. Say “we already had it serviced” or “how much?” twice, and hear what it does when the call stops following the happy path.
5 Hear it, coach it, hear it again
When something lands wrong, don't work around it — coach it. Tell your Sales Caller what to change, in plain words, in its workspace:
“Don't open with the price. Lead with the free inspection, and only quote the price if they ask.”
Then place another test call and listen for the difference. That loop — hear it, coach it, hear it again — is how a pitch gets good, and each round costs you two minutes.
A test call proves the phone experience. To probe lots of situations quickly without picking up a phone, Run a rehearsal by chat — then come back and hear the final version out loud before you go live.
