Your AI phone number & caller ID

The number your AI answers and dials from, and the name customers see.

  • Where Settings › AI Phone Number

Every conversation your AI has — answering an inbound call, returning a missed one, sending a text — happens on one line: your AI Phone Number. It's the number customers save in their contacts, the number they call back, and the number your whole phone presence hangs together on.

1 The steps

1

Open AI Phone Number in Settings.

It's under Phone & Texting. The whole section is read-only — there's no Edit, by design.

2

Read the three rows.

Answers your calls, Calls leads for you and Sends texts are what this line is doing for you today.

3

If Sends texts isn't on yet, go to SMS Registration.

Carriers require a one-time registration before a business number can text — Turn on texting for your business walks it through.

4

Check the identity that goes with it.

Open Info in Settings: Company Name is the name your AI answers in, and the same read-only AI Line is shown there in the Contact group.

5

Call the number from your own phone.

Thirty seconds tells you more than the page does — you hear exactly what a customer hears.

2 The number your AI lives on

The AI Phone Number section shows the line and nothing to edit. That's deliberate. This isn't a value to tweak on a Tuesday — it's the line your customers already know. Changing it would mean every saved contact, every callback and every “is this still you?” moment breaking at once, so it's displayed for reference rather than offered for casual editing.

One number, both directions: your AI answers on it and dials out from it. When the AI calls a customer back, the number on their screen is the same one they called — so they answer, and when they call it back later, they reach your AI again, not a dead end.

3 The identity customers see

What you can shape is the business behind the number, and that lives in your business profile: Company Name is the name your AI answers in, and Business Phone is the number you publish — on the website, on the trucks, on the invoice. They should agree. A caller who looks you up and a caller who gets called back should be in no doubt they're dealing with the same business.

Business Phone and the AI line are deliberately two different fields. The published number is yours to set; the AI's line is shown beside it, read-only, as AI Line.

4 The number is yours

Phone numbers are portable by regulation, and Tradesly treats that as a given, not a lever. If you ever leave, your number goes with you. Choosing an AI receptionist doesn't mean mortgaging the phone number your customers know.

5 If you run more than one brand

Each brand gets its own AI Phone Number, and the number dialed is what selects the agent. A caller to your plumbing brand hears that brand's greeting, in that brand's name — never a sibling brand's, because the line itself decides who answers. Many brands, one team explains the whole arrangement.

6 What it never does

  • Your AI never answers as the wrong business.

The number and the identity are tied together on purpose.

  • Texting never switches on by itself.

Carriers require a one-time registration first, which lives in the SMS Registration section.
